Welcome to my portfolio, please explore!
I attended Eastern Michigan University for my Bachelor’s degree in teaching. My major is in Special Education with a cognitive impairment endorsement and my minor is in Elementary Teaching. I chose to be a special education teacher because out of all the fields within education I felt that these students needed the most help. Throughout my college career, I spent a lot of time working with individuals with special needs and was impressed by what they could accomplish.
I am currently working on my Master's degree in Educational Technology at Michigan State University. This online program has not only taught me how to implement technology into my classroom it has provided me the knowledge of adapting it into all of my lessons. On any given day you can walk into my classroom and my students are engaged and utilizing some sort of technology. By doing this, I am able to reach all of my student's learning styles, whether they are auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners.
I hope that as an educator I will attain the satisfaction of seeing how I can change the life of my students as they learn. I believe that teaching is unlike any other job and I feel very fortunate that I received a position in what I went to college for. Each day I look forward to teaching my students and to help them overcome their obstacles.
My goal for teaching students is to take a holistic approach and to emphasize the significance of teaching the student as a whole, based on their individual needs. I believe that this approach will provide an environment that will be critical to the student’s success. As a teacher it is my mission to provide a positive, supportive environment to enable my students to become lifelong learners. Children brought up in a positive learning environment are more likely to lead positive successful lives. I will recognize my students as individuals and hold their cultures with high regard. It will be important for me as a teacher to utilize the morals, values, and ethics that were passed on to me, so I can help my students reach their full potential.
