Jason Simpson's Technology Showcase
Welcome to my Technology Showcase! This page highlights several of my professional and personal accomplishments throughout my journey at Michigan State University. Each of these courses helped develop my educational technology skills within my classroom. The skills that I have learned will be a tremendous help while implementing technology within all of my lessons. Some of my skills represented are portraying varying kinds of thinking, teaching in an online environment, how to build visual presentations, and ways to properly assess students to be able to deliver the most beneficial instruction meeting their particular needs.
Technology and Leadership
I used Prezi for my graphic recording to represent Missional versus Instrumental Thinking. Graphic recording is a process by which an artist records information being conveyed into a picture or animated video. When solving a problem such as Educational Technology in the classroom, a Missional approach is the most productive way of thinking. |

Teaching Students Online
After looking at a variety of Course Management Systems (CMS), I ended up using Weebly to create my online 4th grade Social Studies classroom. Within our online classroom, I incorporated three lesson plans, a blog to communicate with my students using (Edublogs), and an appropriate assessment to measure their understanding. |

Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
I had to explore ways to incorporate technology in a professional development. We designed an instructional video about the features of Google Documents by using a Flipped Classroom model. The video walks you through creating, naming, and sharing a Google Document. It also shows how you can work collaboratively with peers on the same document online to brainstorm ideas producing a more effective document. |

Learning in School and Other Settings
I created a Prezi lesson to give my students a better understanding of the academic vocabulary related to a stories theme. The students also learned how to identify the theme of a story and the evidence that supports it. During the lesson, the students discussed the dictionary and their own definition of the selected vocabulary words. Then the students are shown a visual representation of the words. Lastly, they were expected to apply what they learned by analyzing a movie clip and identifying the selected parts of the movie.

Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Introduction to Myself Project
This is a PowerPoint presentation that I created to introduce myself, my family, and . My approach was an nonacademic focus on myself, which also includes information on where and what kind of classroom we are currently teaching in. I chose to do a PowerPoint presentation to introduce me, my family, my course and my career. |

Literacy Learner Analysis ProjectThis is a case study that I am currently working on. It is focused on assessing and developing literacy instruction for a child. For the first step, I needed to acquire an understanding of the child's history, including their academic and home literacy lives. The next step I assessed the child, using relevant literacy assessments, so I could get a better picture of their development, strengths, and needs. After the assessment, I created a series of literacy lesson plans to address the child's specific literacy needs. Lastly, I analyzed the child's post-assessment and performance in the literacy lessons, so I could make recommendations about the child's literacy development.

How Monroe Elementary School Incorporates the Daily 5
I was asked by the principal, Vicki Wilson, of Monroe Elementary School to take pictures and create a Daily 5 video. Daily 5 is a structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently, which will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence. The video was used at a board meeting to show the city of Wyandotte and the board members how Monroe incorporates Daily 5 across all of the grade levels. |

Special Education End of Year Video
This video was created for Wyandotte Public School's Director of Special Education, Cindy Taylor. She asked for me to collaborate with the resource room and inclusion teachers district wide. I rounded up pictures that highlighted the student's progress throughout the school year. The video was shown to all of the special ed teachers during the last week of school. |

Projects I Created While Student Teaching
While student teaching, I created many useful activities for my first graders. I created a PowerPoint with rhyming chants for emergent readers, tricky word cards, a first grade math mat, and star reader awards. Feel free to download them and implement them within your classroom.
Educational Technology Pinterest Boards
Within Pinterest, I have three bulletin boards of useful technology related material. The first board is called Computer Home Remedies. This one shares simple information to keep your computer running smoothly. The second one is on Educational iPad Apps that I highly recommend for students within the classroom. Lastly, is Special Education websites that help parents find useful resources like, assistive technology for home and school.
